United Home Health Services Physical Therapist Nancy Malone enjoyed playing Santa last month for one of her patients and children. "Every year my fellow employees get together and collect money for a worthy cause around the Holidays. This year we decided to purchase gift cards for some of our patients in need so that they could have a nice celebration."
Nancy presented her patient Martha, who is recovering from a rotator cuff repair, with a $250 Meijer gift card the week before Christmas. "We were absolutley stunned and surpirsed by this very generous gift. We had no idea United was giving us this! We were laughing and crying at the same time! Our checks only cover our bills every month---we have nothing extra. You brought the joy of the Holidays to three people who would otherwise have had no Christmas!" notes Martha.
Martha and her family were able to purchase a turkey with all the fixings for Christmas dinner and some much needed clothing and household items. "We will always remember this. We look forward to the day when we can do something like this for someone else!" states Martha's daughter Dana.
Amy Gil, Finance and IS Coordinator at United, spearheaded this project and believes this kind of community outreach fits well with their mission to serve. "I am so proud of our employees and their generosity. They really got into the spirit of the season and helped make a very special Christmas for several of our families."
Every Christmas, UHHS employees rally together for a worthy cause in the community. This year they purchased Meijer gift cards for needy patients to help make their Holidays a little brighter. [more]
